It is about spaceships! We learn skills for ages, we work/cheat/steal hard to collect the ISK to buy it and then, finally, we have it, --- our cool ship. We give it a name, we spin it, we make screen shots when we leave station. And here you go ...

Changing a user interface without a requirement is never a good idea. This feels like developers going wild. It is not a good sign for project management. Anyway, introducing an uncommon UI feels strange. I would prefer the "normal" more intuitiv...

Hardware is really not the issue for EVE. My 5 year old notebook still runs EVE. So, if it is just for EVE do not invest in hardware.

By chance, I work in a similar area. the "user base" of our bank is a bit bigger and, different than CCP, we cannot drop the ball. In our case, it is about real money. I can tell you this is a rather difficult task. And we can probably throw more...
